Well it did. A few nights ago I was in the middle of writing a ‘tweet’ through TweetDeck and it wouldn’t send. I thought there was a problem with the TweetDeck software perhaps. I kept hitting the send button enough times to finally realised it probably wasn’t the software, it may actually be a problem with twitter itself.
Now I am still relatively new to twitter, but I know enough about twitter to realise it’s a pretty big thing at the moment. So I thought I would search google and type the phrase ‘is twitter down’ thinking a news item might pop up telling me twitter was down. I figure given how big twitter is that there might be a news item out there somewhere with some breaking news saying it was down.
I didn’t quite get the result I wanted but (at the time) this website was no1. At the time it said ‘yes’ and if you clicked on the word ‘yes’ it would take you to a online shirt store where you could buy ‘twitter down’ t-shirts which I thought was quite clever. It turns out that twitter was in fact down so I imagine that particular site would have gotten a ton of hits.
The point of all this is that you shouldn’t put all your eggs in one basket. This month my main social media focus has been twitter. At the time twitter decided to crash I had just written my latest blog post Beginner Blogger Stats and Goals – July-Aug 09 and wanted to use twitter to promote it. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to do this and didn’t have another form of social media set up anywhere near as big as I do with twitter.
So I ask you – Have you had similar experiences like this? Have you got all your eggs in one basket? If so it might be wise to seek other options in case something like this happens in future

The funniest one was when GMail went down for 2/3 hours earlier this year. This was national news, it’s silly.
I nevre put all my eggs in one basket. Either with income or with traffic. It gets easier over time, more posts = more ways for people to find your site.
It just goes to show how big the internet and it’s popular websites are becoming in society
I usually have Mashable on facebook as well as email daily . Also have several Twitter accounts with the FB so usually if I don’t get to Twitter itself, I know somewhat of what is going on through FB.
