One of the first things I ever wanted to do when starting my own blog/site was to see my site ranked in google. I mean, how exciting would it be to see your site ranked high in google then start seeing traffic coming through?
To get your site ranked in google you first need to submit your URL to google. It’s so simple – here’s how to do it:
- Go to http://www.google.com.au/addurl/
- Enter in your URL and click ‘add URL’
It’s that easy!
Make sure you enter your full URL. For example for me to enter in this site I entered the URL of http://www.beginnerblogger.com/. This is your index page, which means you don’t need to add any other URLs as long as your site links to all other links in someway from your index page.
Google will also ask you to enter in any comments about your site. You doesn’t matter what you type in the comments section or leave it blank. The comment section is used only by google and your site won’t be indexed according to what you enter in the comments field.
Although this site is still at the very beginning I am now being ranked in google thanks to submitting my site. This is really exciting for me. If you search ‘beginner blogger’ in google I will be ranked in page 1 or 2. It changes often. I have searched ‘beginner blogger’ at times before and have been no1! So go ahead, see where I rank in google and drop me a comment below and let me know where I rank!

i type it in exactly as is so http://www.cheap3d.net
any more suggestions
Are you using a wordpress blog? You need to make sure it’s set to public. Go to Settings – Privacy and set it to “I would like my blog to be visible to everyone, including search engines (like Google, Sphere, Technorati) and archivers”
Hope this helps
thanks for the quick reply, but its actually a website, using a free hosting service
http://www.cheap3d.net so not sure what needs to be done
how long does it normally take?
It can take up 48 hours I think.
Have a look at this site too it may. help https://www.google.com/webmasters/
Register your site through them and it should provide you with tools so you’re indexed by google.
http://ismyblogworking.com/ Is another site you could have a look at also.
thanks Sarge, eventually worked, i think it took about a week…..new challenge getting http://www.cheapcloudserver.com up there
@Sam – That’s great you got it all working! Didn’t realise it took so long, but glad you got there in the end
Hi Sarge,
I’m sorry if this is a really stupid question but doesn’t it all depend upon what you type into the search engines? I would have thought that once Google’s bots had crawled your site, typing ‘beginner blogger’ should always have you at or near the very top since that is the name of your site.
Like with us, if you type ‘Give A Brick’ into Google, we’re always in the top 3 because it’s not a common phrase. (Type ‘GiveABrick’ in and thanks to Twitter we fill the page!)
Surely then the true test should be where you’re positioned when you type in something like ’start blogging help’ or something that an actual person who didn’t know who or where you were would type if they wanted help from a site such as yours.
Not trying to rain on anyone’s parade. Just trying to clarify things really and see what others think.
Thanks,
Eleanor
