It feels like Christmas morning, the stockings are filled, the owls are hooting… wait, did I just say the owls are hooting? Well yes I did!
Hootsuite is out on the iPhone! Christmas has come early!
Hootsuite the Web Application
If you’re not already familiar with Hootsuite it is a web-based twitter account manager that is very much similar to tweetdeck. Hootsuite has the added benefits of displaying stats (when someone clicks on your links) and the ability to schedule tweets.
Hootsuite recently came out with an update that integrates facebook, facebook fan pages, linkedIn and ping.fm accounts. You can pretty much manage any social media site from within the Hootsuite web application. So if you’re not already using hootsuite I recommend you at least try Hootsuite on the web now – it’s free.
Hootsuite the iPhone Application
Hootsuite came out on the iPhone today. After playing around with it for the last hour or so I am very impressed. It’s fast, reliable (I haven’t had a crash yet) and lets you can manage your (perhaps multiple) twitter account on run.
Here’s a list of features for the iPhone version:
• Customizable user interface with sortable tabs and columns
• Easy navigation thanks to column swiping
• Schedule tweets
• Update multiple accounts at once
• Save searches
• Track statistics
• Share photos
• Import lists
• Explore trending topics
Unfortunately there doesn’t appear to be any facebook, linkedIn or ping.fm support for the iPhone version. But I have no doubt it will be available in a future update – at least I’m hoping so!
Also you can only view stats in per-tweet on the iPhone and not a set time-frame view like you can on the web, but this is minor. I do find looking at per-tweet stats on the iPhone version much quicker and easier than the web-based version.
I would have paid $10+ for this application but it only costs $1.99 US.
If you’re new to Hootsuite in general definitely check it out on the web first before you check out the iphone version.
Your Turn
What’s your impression of Hootsuite? Have you used Hootsuite before? Would you download the iPhone application for $1.99? What twitter applications do you use? What’s your favourite, and why?
Write them down in the comments below
Happy hooting!

Sarge,
I was so excited to download this app from the iTunes store for my iPod Touch (yeah I do not have an iPhone..yet)
After switching to HootSuite from TweetDeck a couple months I was looking forward to having the same Twitter client on my iPod. Hootsuite is my favorite Twitter client after trying Tweetie, echofon, twitterific, and TweetDeck. There are some features I would like to see change such as switching from home feed to replies and then to direct messages.
Another added bonus is you are able to see your stats from your owl.ly tweets.
Overall it is a great start for HootSuite users and worth the $1..99 but could use some minor improvements like I have previously stated.
Best Regards,
Derek
Hi Sarge,
This looks pretty cool. I don’t have the iPhone but I’d use this if I did. HootSuite is my favorite app so far. I never see trending topics though, do I need to add a column (not that I miss them)? I did try Brizzly for awhile and that was cool too because you can see images and expanded url’s right on the page. But those features don’t compare to HootSuite. I didn’t like TweetDeck because you had to install software and I didn’t want to.
Thanks for showing me how cool the iPhone ap is. Now, where do I vote? Oh cool I see the Blog Engage Vote button now. Sweet!
I agree – hootsuite for iPhone IS an early Christmas gift
So excited to use it!
@Derek – if you set your columns right you can flick across from your home feed to your replies to your direct messages, just like you could with Tweetdeck. You just have to make sure that the columns are sitting next to each other in the first place
@Ileane – the iPhone app has a trending topics section. I’m not sure if hootsuite on the web has it. I’ve never really gotten into trending topics on twitter really. But it’s certainly there on the iPhone app.
@31everything – It’s great isn’t it!
I love my iPhone and I also love my Twitter account (Twitter brings me more new visitors than any other source) but I’m not sure Hootsuite is for me.
Although it looks powerful, I really have no need to to manage my Twitter account when I’m away from my PC. It’s the same reason why I don’t have the WP app on my iPhone, when I’m not blogging, I’m doing other things that take priority.
Perhaps one day I’ll change my mind when I’m on the road more often.
Yep. It would be fun too if I had an iPhone. That’s on top of my christmas wishlist
after then I’ll get that app.
Hallo BB,
Hoot Suite is amazingly useful – and , yes, If I had an iPhone
( Christmas is coming!) I’d be quite happy to pay a little extra for it.
Talking of Christmas I hope you and some of your visitors will want to take part in this festive fun contest …. Brianwave – The Alexa Ranking Contest | whatawebsite.org http://bit.ly/5IxcIF #BlogEngage
Cheers

@ Gabe – True, I’ve noticed now that I work from home I haven’t found the use to use my mobile so much for twitter. Having said that when I’m out and about, waiting for a bus or waiting in line or something I will definitely find this handy. Love being able to do what I do on my desktop on the run
@ Liane and Will – Been good? Hehe – Let’s hope you guys get an iPhone for Christmas
I’ve been using Hootsuite since the start of my site, it’s fantastic and find it better than TweetDeck (I know that a lot of you will disagree though)
Good app for the iPhone although I use a N97 so won’t be using it, I will say though that it’s a must for iPhone users.
I used Hootsuite, but like Tweet Deck better for its simplicity… maybe you could showcase why should I start to use HS again, and probably I’ll get an iPhone too
@Codrut – I find hootsuite and tweetdeck to be on the same level of simplicity really. I haven’t been on tweetdeck for months though so maybe they improved things.
I am thinking of writing a blog post where I write about how I use and manage twitter friends so that will certainly feature hootsuite on the web and iphone
