I saw a great post on Mike’s Life, SteitBlog and Lifenotion about setting goals for 2010. While I am more a month by month person and think that a year is way too long to set solid goals for I thought I’d chip in and do some goals for this Beginner Blogger site.
These are very rough figures but I would be over the moon if just some of these happened. I’m also sure some of these figures will be adjusted as the year goes on so they’re more realistic.
Beginner Blogger 2010 Goals
- Top 50,000 Alexa Ranking – (though it doesn’t really mean anything to me, just shows progression based on traffic)
- Page Rank 4+ (though it doesn’t really mean anything to me just shows progression in the eyes of google)
- 1000+ visits per day
- Launch several small quality ebooks to give away for free
- Launch 1-2 paid ebooks
- 300+ blog posts either on the blog or as guest posts elsewhere
- 2+ guest posts a month
- Complete Redesign
- Create SEO strategy (my current SEO traffic is awful)
- Create structured email course
- Launch a product/package that is not just an ebook
- 1500+ RSS subscribers
- 1000+ Email subscribers
- 500+ Facebook fans
- 10,000+ Twitter followers
- Perform online presentations
- Read 20+ quality books like Trust Agents
- Video interviews, more skype chats – get over the fear of the phone/voice conversations and be confident in that area
- Outsource someone as an experiment and gain experience working with someone
- Attend a blogging related conference
- Meet some of the amazing people I’ve met online in the ‘real world’
- Perhaps partner with someone
- Do something ground-breaking, never seen/done before in the blogging world. Think outside the box.
- Be a ‘construction worker’ and live up to my 3 words this year of Focus, Busy and Engage
- Be able to say at the end of the year I can continue doing this for 2011
As you know I’ve left my full time job to pursue a career online. So that last goal is so very much important to me. I love what I’ve been doing so far and I’d love to continue with it for many years to come. I want to gain all the experience I can get and most of all be able to successfully help you with your blogging problems.
So what are your goals? If you’ve made a similar 2010 goals post make sure you include it here with a link back to your site. I think it’s great to set goals so you can look back on later and see where you’ve come from.
Let’s all achieve our goals for 2010!

Fantastic goals Sarge! I love how they are not just “statistical goals” but there are quite a few personal style goals as well.
I’d love to know more about what you mean with this one:
“Outsource someone as an experiment and gain experience working with someone”
Hey Tom – basically I wouldn’t mind experimenting hiring someone from elance or something like that to help me with some tasks I do online. For the experience more than anything, the transaction, managing someone else etc.
Great goals, I wish you all the good luck at 2010.. it could be our lucky year to reach all our goals!
Hi Sarge,
I’m not too big on setting specific goals over such a long term – if you’re month by month, I’m probably week by week! But having said that it is undoubtedly a good idea to imagine what might be possible to achieve – and looking through your list of targets I’d say they are all realistic as long as you stay focussed. And really I expect you’ll exceed lots of them. In any case, it’s a bold, positive step moving to blogging full-time – good on you… & … looking forward to reading your 2011 goals

Thanks Hesham – Wishing you all the best for 2010 also!
@Will – Yeah it’s tough sorting out long term goals, you never know what could come up. You have more of an idea with short term. Even month by month like you say can be a bit much also. A classic example is my last few days. Some things came up which I didn’t have planned which has limited my working potential so I’m going to have to pick it notch the next few days!
Thanks for stopping by – really encouraging comment. Wish you all the best too Will!
Setting goals like those in your list is fine as long as you are willing to forget about them if one of your plans takes off – really takes off. You are going to want to give more of your time to following what has proved to be successful rather than holding back and moving on to something that might not work.
@David – Good point, obviously if something works really well that is proving to be successful in my books then it would be silly to do something I’ve written down just because it’s there to do. That’s something I’m slowly learning. When I do my end of month goals I feel like I have to do everything written down to the letter, otherwise I haven’t achieved my goals but truth be told that things change. Some things work better than others and it may be in the best interest to remove some things from your goals and adjust others which can lead to greater success. Be open minded and willing to change the goals and actions you initially set out if they will lead to greater success.
Nice goals! Hope you succeed! Good luck!

Has any one had long term experience of outsourcing article writing with the same company or person? If someone is writing articles for you in a niche, does their output become repetitive?
Sarge
Perhaps postpone some tasks rather than ” remove some things from your goals” is the thing to do. I hope you keep us up to date.
I am setting some goals for my blog. I want it to grow everyone does. But I want my blog to be able to stand on its own as unique and special to people.
Hey Sarge,
Great post. Very happy to see you’re focussed on this stuff going forward in 2010. Hope all is well, we gotta catch up soon for a drink or something! Also, let me know your feelings about coming back to us in the next month or two as a part timer?
Cheers

Hey Jordan,
I’m definitely up for working part time back at that awesome joint. Miss you guys! I’ve been watching a ton of the ‘The Office’ lately. I’m addicted. A sign?
I now know where you got that exploding fist five from now.
